Richard Stephen Gilbert, M.D.
Richard S. Gilbert, M.D., is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with specialty training in surgery of the hand and upper extremity. He has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand. After receiving a bachelors’ degree from The Johns Hopkins University, he went on to obtain his medical degree from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital. He then further sub-specialized by completing a Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at The Yale University School of Medicine
Dr. Gilbert is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and is an active member of the Hand Surgery Service. He is intimately involved in the education and training of residents and medical students. He serves on a number of committees in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai, including the Education Committee, the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Selection Committee, and the Quality and Assurance Committee.
Dr. Gilbert is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has published journal articles and book chapters, and has presented at regional and national conferences on subjects related to the hand and upper extremity.
Dr. Gilbert’s specialty interest is in the treatment and reconstruction of fractures, soft tissue injuries, and neuropathies involving the hand and upper extremity. He employs both traditional surgical techniques, in addition to the latest minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques.
